A recent study that was published in the academic journal Advances in Infectious Diseases warns that nearly all Apple Watches and Fitbits are covered in hazardous bacteria. They also discovered that 95% of bracelets contained a harmful bacterial contamination.

Particularly, 60% of the samples included E coli bacteria, 30% contained potentially lethal Pseudomonas spp., and 85% of the samples contained Staphylococcus spp., which causes staph infections. Pneumonia and blood infections are just two of the many clinical conditions that these Apple Watches and Fitbits bacteria can cause.

Amounts of Harmful Germs if Apple Watches and Fitbits not Sanitized Properly

Every day, almost 229 million people wear Apple Watches and Fitbits to track their workouts, keep track of their sleep, enhance their general health, or just to be reminded to stand up. The participants who wore their Apple Watches and Fitbits while exercising had the greatest levels of staphylococcal germs, highlighting the necessity of thoroughly cleaning the Apple Watches and Fitbits after any strenuous exercise. Nwadiuto Esiobu, Ph.D. stated that active healthcare professionals who frequent the gym should be especially vigilant when sanitizing their Apple Watches and Fitbits to prevent potentially infecting vulnerable patients.
