Criminal Charges To Former Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Employees

Carlos Acosta and Andrew Polovin, former Illinois Department of Children and Family Services employees, are going on trial for their handling of 5-year-old AJ Freund’s case in Crystal Lake. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services employees are charged with endangering a child’s life and reckless conduct.

The former Illinois Department of Children and Family Services employees were dismissed months after the child died. AJ was found dead in a shallow grave after enduring abuse from his parents, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services stated.

AJ was subjected to a pattern of abuse from his own parents according to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services also added, according to a published article by FOX 32 Chicago, that AJ’s mother was sentenced to 35 years in prison for his murder, while his father received a 30-year sentence for aggravated battery of a child, involuntary manslaughter, and concealment of a homicidal act.
