Man in New Orleans Pleads Guilty of Brutally Killing a 75-Year-Old Man

A man in New Orleans will face a possible life sentence after he pleaded guilty to brutally killing a 75-year-old man.

New Orleans Man Brutally Killed a 75-Year-Old Man

A New Orleans man identified as Martin Hurtado, 30 years old, brutally killed a 75-year-old man identified as David Sorenson on Dec. 1, 2022. Authorities responded to the Avenue Plaza Hotel in the New Orleans Garden District neighborhood after a man tried to pull the fire alarm at around 11:00 p.m. on the same day.

In a published article in FOX News, Sorenson’s wife identified the man as Hurtado who entered their room and brutally punched her husband in the face. She immediately asked for help and when officers arrived, they found the 75-year-old man suffering from injuries.

New Orleans Man Pleaded Guilty

According to an article in Yahoo News, Martin Hurtado accepted a deal from Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams’ office and pleaded guilty. He will serve 40 years in prison but they did not give more details about the conviction.

Williams said, “We demanded accountability for Mr. Sorenson and his family, and our prosecutors, with the help of [New Orleans District,] worked tirelessly to secure a conviction. This resolution not only resulted in a substantial 40-year prison sentence, it removed the risk of an extremely emotional and stressful trial process for the family of Mr. Sorenson.”
