After entering a guilty plea to federal counts of carjacking and possession of a handgun earlier this year, Kewan Tillman, 20, will serve 10 years in federal prison.

At a Thorntons petrol station in Posen, Illinois, in the afternoon of July 27, 2022, Tillman approached the woman with a gun as she was getting into her Kia Optima with her two young children inside.

Prosecutors claim that the 20-year-old demanded the mother’s keys while pointing the revolver at her.

Illinois prosecutors claimed Tillman approached the unnamed victim brandishing a loaded firearm in a press release.

The woman was able to quickly remove her two children from the back of her car after turning over her keys.

According to the authorities, Tillman accelerated the car but soon lost control of it. He then exited the vehicle and fled back towards the gas station, where he made an unsuccessful attempt to break into a lorry that was in motion.

After throwing away the weapon in a drain, Tillman made another attempt to get into a car that was parked next to a petrol station.

According to the prosecution, Tillman engaged in a physical altercation with the driver of that car before Posen Police Department deputies intervened and took Tillman into custody.

Further examination revealed that the abandoned pistol had a “Glock switch,” also referred to as a “auto sear.” When it was found, Tillman’s gun, according to the authorities, could only fire in fully automatic mode.

Tillman originally sped a Kia Soul that had been reported stolen in Chicago to the petrol station.
