According to authorities, a suspected serial sex offender in Virginia was apprehended Thursday night after being spotted by security cameras snooping around a park with kids nearby.

A male who matched the description of a recent indecent exposure suspect was spotted on security cameras in the Groveton neighbourhood at 7 o’clock, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Police added that after arriving at the 6600 block of Telegraph Road right away, patrol officers from the Franconia and Mount Vernon police districts saw the man attempting to run.

Authorities said that the guy started to remove parts of his clothes as he ran and threw them into the woods.

The man was arrested and officers immediately caught up to him.

Felix Antonio Mejias Vigil, a 35-year-old Fairfax resident, was named as the suspect.

Vigil is allegedly responsible for numerous sex offences that took place in Fairfax County between July and September, according to the police.

He is charged with four counts of actual or simulated masturbating in public, two counts of indecent liberties with a kid under 15, and providing fake identification to law authorities.

He is being held without bond at the Adult Detention Centre.
