A DoorDash driver in New York was detained on Wednesday after police said she utilised the delivery of a meal order to conceal the theft of a box twice.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, Juliana Saggaram, 33, of Queens, is charged with two counts of petit larceny resulting from packages reported stolen on Sunday, Sept. 3.
The department revealed doorbell camera footage from one of the incidents, in which Saggaram is purportedly seen strolling up to a house with a meal order in her hand.
Instead of leaving the food bag, a woman is seen picking up a parcel from the porch and walking back to her car with both goods in tow. She then gets into a car parked near the home’s driveway and exits the area.
According to Nassau County police, the aforementioned event occurred on Highland Terrace in Manhasset on September 3 at 4:34 p.m. The victim reported the package theft to authorities after it was stolen from outside her home.
Saggaram was also charged in a similar incident that occurred in Sands Point at 5 p.m. the same day.
Prior to the thefts, police claimed Saggaram picked up a Chipotle order for a DoorDash client before driving around the neighbourhood looking for items left outside.
Saggaram was handed a court appearance ticket and will appear in First District Court on October 20.
