According to Chicago police, an investigation is underway after more Halloween decorations were discovered burning on the Northwest Side Tuesday morning.
The house was not damaged, but the residents were shaken.
Some hay on the porch was scorched by the fire. The blaze broke out shortly before 3:45 a.m. in the 3200 block of North California Avenue.
A Com-Ed truck passing by grabbed a fire extinguisher to assist in putting it out.
Inside the house, there are three distinct flats, each housing five people.
A Bomb and Arson squad was dispatched to the area to investigate, although police stated that the fire did not appear to be criminal in origin.
The homeowner expressed amazement and wants to remove the decorations.
“This is out of the ordinary. We’ve never experienced an issue. I’ve been here for nearly two decades. Nothing ever happened around here.
This is not the first fire involving Halloween decorations in Avondale. At least eight distinct fires have occurred since the beginning of October.
Police notified neighbours that someone was setting fire to Halloween decorations on front porches as well as street corner garbage cans.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in any of the fires, including the one that broke out Tuesday morning.
