On Sunday, police fatally shot a woman brandishing an imitation handgun in Anaheim.
Officers were summoned to the site near the 1200 block of S. Anaheim Boulevard around 9 a.m. after receiving reports of a woman armed with a rifle in the area, according to an Anaheim Police Department statement.
When they arrived, they encountered the woman, who has been named as Abigail Lopez, 20.
According to police, Lopez and several officers got into a fight, which prompted them to open fire.
“Lopez was struck at least once by police gunfire,” according to the statement. She was transferred to a local hospital and died there.
“A BB gun or pellet gun that resembled a legitimate short-barrel assault weapon was located at the scene,” the Austin Police Department said.
The event resulted in no cops being wounded.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office and Anaheim Police Department’s Internal Affairs are investigating the shooting.
