The New York Police Department reports that a woman from New York City has turned herself into the police after reportedly hurling her mobile and hot coffee at a guy during a hate crime.
According to police, Hadasa Bozakkaravani, 48, is suspected of attacking the victim at Edmonds Playground in Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill neighbourhood after making derogatory remarks about Islam.
Bozakkaravani is accused of nine crimes, four of which are related to hate crimes, according to the police.
According to reports, hate crimes in New York City have significantly increased since the Middle East instability started in early November. These crimes include an increase in attacks on Muslims, and tensions surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict remain high.
The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force reported that last month saw a 124% increase in the overall number of occurrences, including the most recent one involving Bozakkaravani.
According to the research, there has been a 214% increase in anti-Jewish occurrences in New York City when compared to October 2022.
“The men and women of the NYPD continue to work hand in hand with the people we serve throughout the five boroughs,” Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban stated in the report. “Public safety is a shared responsibility that takes everybody, in every neighborhood, doing their part.
“That is how we will sustain low levels of crime and further reduce violence and disorder across our great city.”
