A man who attempted to steal an employee of an armoured car in Tennessee was shot and killed by a police officer, and the man then charged at the officer with two knives, according to newly released bodycam footage.
The Murfreesboro Police Department reports that at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, a worker replenishing cash in an ATM was the target of an attempted robbery by Steven James Murphy, 44.
Murphy was then given a gunshot wound by the employee, and he fled into a nearby deli, according to Murfreesboro Police spokesman Larry Flowers during a press conference.
In the footage, Murphy, who works behind the counter, hears Officer Adam Claiborne saying “hey” as he opens the deli’s door. Murphy then pivots and lunges towards the policeman while brandishing knives above his head in both hands.
Then, Claiborne can be seen telling Murphy to put down the knife before starting to fire multiple times.
Murphy, according to Flowers, passed away at the hospital shortly after becoming incapacitated.
Six deli employees, the armoured car driver, and the cop were unharmed, according to the authorities.
The shooting is presently being looked into by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
