Victim Identified in Fatal West Birmingham Shooting on Saturday
The Birmingham Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that took place on Saturday afternoon in west Birmingham. According to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, Lakevin Ralpheal Debruce, a 22-year-old resident of Adamsville, lost his life in the incident that unfolded at 4:01 p.m. in the 2600 block of Avenue C in Birmingham. Tragically, Debruce succumbed to his injuries at UAB Hospital.
The sequence of events leading to Debruce’s death began with a witness in the area hearing gunfire and subsequently observing the victim falling out of a vehicle onto the roadway. Promptly, the witness dialed 911 to report the incident.
Regrettably, Debruce was one of three men who lost their lives in Birmingham within a 13-hour timeframe. His death marks Birmingham’s 121st confirmed homicide this year. It’s noteworthy that among the total homicides in the city, one involved an officer-involved shooting by an external law enforcement agency, and eight others were ruled justifiable.
The broader context reveals that, across all of Jefferson County, there have been a total of 167 homicides, encompassing the 121 reported in Birmingham.
