Police were called to a multi-family home at 467 Beach 22nd Street on Sunday at 5:10 a.m. by a teenage girl who stated her cousin “was killing her family members,” according to NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, who announced during a press conference on Sunday.

The culprit, 38-year-old Bronx resident Courtney Gordon, was seen trying to leave the area with baggage when the police arrived. According to the police, he stabbed two cops in the neck and head.

Briefing the media on what took place, Maddrey said, “As they get to the driveway they see a male walking out. He’s carrying luggage. The officers asked the male a question or two, an encounter that lasted about 10 seconds, where the male drew a knife on our officers. He stabs one officer in the neck/chest area and strikes the second officer in the head.”

Gordon stabbed the cops before being shot and killed by a seasoned officer who has worked for the department for almost thirty years.

Gordon allegedly started a fire before leaving the house, forcing the police to wait for the fire service to show up and put out the flames before entering.

Officers discovered five stabbed victims inside the house; four of them passed away as a result of their wounds. Three individuals were found by the officers: a woman, aged 44, a man in his 30s, and a 12-year-old boy. All were declared deceased on the spot.

Officers discovered a critically ill 61-year-old mother and an injured 11-year-old kid in front of the residence.

Following her transfer to a nearby hospital, the 11-year-old child was declared dead, according to the police. Additionally, the 61-year-old woman was sent in critical condition to a nearby hospital.

Police say that the injured officers were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Centre and are currently in a stable but serious condition.

Gordon was taken to a nearby hospital and later declared dead.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been made public by the authorities, but they all seem to have been related to one another, according to police.

“This shows that police officers never know what they’re responding to, what’s awaiting them on that scene. This scene was chaos; multiple victims, a house on fire and a madman on a rampage, on a mission,” Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry said of the incident during a press conference.
