Federal authorities have charged a Florida kid after they claim he made threats of a Thanksgiving mass shooting in New York City.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office claims that 19-year-old Robert Trout III made threats on Instagram to travel to New York City and “cause havoc on the subway” by killing “anybody” he sees on Thanksgiving.
“If you’re from New York City, do not take the train on Thursday evening, bro,” Trout said in the video.
Federal officials reported in a news release that Trout showed “multiple firearms” during his outburst on Instagram, including two semiautomatic rifles with extended magazines holding a total of 60 bullets, adding, “That’s 60 shots – that’s sixty people dead.”
Investigators claim that witness comments and a few recently removed photos from Trout’s Instagram account helped them identify Trout as the person of interest.
Trout was in federal court in Tampa on Thursday for the first time. He was given an order to be detained without being given any bond until his next court date on December 18.
Trout may spend up to five years in prison if found guilty.
