72-year-old Florida man arrested for threatening to kill Bay Area Rep. Eric Swalwell

According to the Southern District of Florida United Stated Attorney’s Office, a man from Florida of age 72 years named Michael Shapiro was arrested on Wednesday morning  in charges of threatening a Congress member named Bay Area Rep. Eric Swalwell and his children.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, this man is a resident of the Palm Beach city of Greenacres in Florida, he left several threatening voicemail and messaged to the Congressperson’s congressional office in Washington, D.C. The complaint got registered on December 19, 2023 when Shapiro made call from his home to file a criminal complaint.

The evidence given by Shapiro were the messages stating “come after you and kill you….” and another message stating “come and kill your children…..” Shapiro also said that he was pleaded guilty in 2019 for making threatening communications to another victim.

But according to the statement released by the Southern District of Florida United States Attorney’s Office, these messages did not specify the target of Michael.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Shapiro made his initial appearance Wednesday morning before U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce E. Reinhart for the Southern District of Florida.

Swalwell is regularly been targeted by threats. A 22-year-old Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty to making threatening phone calls to Swalwell’s Bay Area offices in the fall of 2022.
