According to authorities, a Chicago woman was detained on Thursday after it was alleged that she had written antisemitic graffiti on several buildings.

The 30-year-old Mariana Lynch was accused of three felonies related to hate crimes and one offence related to hate crimes at a school.

In addition, the defendant was charged with four misdemeanour counts of criminal defacement of property and two felonies of criminal damage to government property.

FOX 32 Chicago reported that antisemitic graffiti may be seen on several different businesses. The swastika was one of the features, the station said Fox News Digital.

The Chicago Police Department announced in a statement to Fox News Digital that Lynch was taken into custody on Thursday just before 1:00 p.m.

“She was identified as the offender who, within an hour, defaced multiple businesses, an apartment building, and park property (24th District),” the statement read. “The offender was placed into custody and charged accordingly.”

According to the police, there are currently no more details available regarding the incident.

Antisemitic crimes in the United States have increased since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

After antisemitic remarks were written on parked cars on Wilson Avenue in Chicago in November, authorities launched an investigation.
