According to a post on their Facebook page, Ann Arbour Police were called to Forsythe Middle School on Saturday at about 6:45 p.m. over claims of a minor attempting to steal a construction vehicle.

Officers said that the car in question was spotted driving without lights only a short while after they received the complaint.

Officers started pursuing the boy at a speed of about 15 to 20 miles per hour, and a chase ensued.

The 12-year-old child reportedly ran through the Georgetown Boulevard neighbourhood during the pursuit and struck about ten parked cars.

After Ann Arbour police ended the chase when the vehicle crossed the M-14 bridge, around 7:18 p.m., Washtenaw County deputies resumed the pursuit. Almost thirty minutes later, according to the authorities, the boy stopped close to Gotfredson and was taken into jail.

The Genie GTH-636 Telehandler, which was reported stolen, was found unlocked at the middle school, with the key concealed inside, according to the police.

According to the officers, there is still an active criminal investigation into the incident.
