Chinese exchange student found safe inside tent in Utah after ‘cyber kidnapping,’ police say

A foreign exchange student from China was missing since last week in Utah and authorities found out that it was an apparent “cyber kidnapping” scheme to extort $80,000 from the student’s family.

The student was 17-year-old and was missing from Friday was last seen at the home where he had been staying in Riverdale, about 30 miles from Salt Lake City.

Police thought that it was kidnapping but he was found safe in a tent about 25 miles away from Riverdale in the Brigham City area.

He told police that his family in China was threatened and that’s why he had isolated himself but police is still unclear about the fact that how he got this information and why he was isolating himself.
