Colorado Woman Sentenced for Killing Newborn, Leaving Child in Bag in Bathroom Cabinet

A Colorado woman has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing her infant daughter and leaving the young man’s body in a pack at a bathroom facility.

The woman, 35-year-old Sarah Collins, was found guilty of first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of her 4-day-old daughter, Lily. Collins gave birth to Lily in February 2022 at her home in Aurora, Colorado. He then strangled the boy then, placed him in a plastic bag and hid him in a toilet facility.

The better part of Collins found Lily’s body three days after the fact. She called police, and Collins has now been arrested.

Collins previously told police she didn’t realize she was pregnant until she had children. But investigators presented evidence that Collins knew about her pregnancy and went out of her way to cover it up for her loved ones

Investigators presented similar evidence that Collins searched the Internet for information about his most skilled method of killing a baby.

Collins’ defense attorney argued that he was delusional and that his activities were the result of his mental illness. However, the jury rejected this argument and found Collins guilty of aggravated murder and juvenile abuse.

In Collins’ damning statement, the victim’s family expressed disappointment and shock at his activities.

“Sarah Collins took an innocent life from there,” Lily’s grandfather said. “He can’t always undo the pain he’s caused our loved ones.”

Collins apologized to the victim’s family in court, but his expression of remorse did nothing to strengthen them.
