Deputy Sheriff Eric Minix, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, lost his life in the collision as Georgian law enforcement pursued a stolen car in Alabama.

According to a social media statement by the sheriff’s office, “during the apprehension of the suspect Eric was struck by a police car and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.”

“We have lost a good deputy. We have lost a good man. We have lost a good friend,” the sheriff’s office wrote.

The collision happened on Interstate 85 in Chambers County, which is near the Georgia–Alabama line, according to WRBL-TV.

The crash is being investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. According to a spokesperson, they are attempting to compile further data for publication.

Minix, a K-9 officer as well, leaves behind a wife and three daughters.
