Fulton County Jail inmate dies while in custody

On early Wednesday morning, a Fulton County Jail inmate was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive during security rounds.

According to a Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, his name was Michael Anthony Holland of age 36 years had attempted to revive him until advanced medical staff arrived. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and there he was pronounced dead.

Holland was arrested by the East Point Department on May 4, 2023. Other charges are also put against law enforcement officer when he was engaged in official duty, and three counts of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers by use of threats or violence. The officer was booked at the Rice Street Jail and he was then held on a $55,000 bond.

The Atlanta Police Department will conduct a death investigation. An autopsy on Holland will be conducted by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice is also investigating conditions at the jail.
