According to the criminal arrest warrant acquired by Fox 5 Atlanta, an 81-year-old man is accused of killing his wife by repeatedly striking her in the head with a hammer at the retirement complex where they both resided.

According to the Gwinnett County Police, Lawrenceville resident Richard Hayden, 81, was taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with felony murder, malice murder, and aggravated assault in connection with the death of his wife, Grace Hayden. The 71-year-old woman was discovered dead in her room at the Linwood Estates Gracious Retirement Living, according to police reports.

The arrest warrant states that Hayden killed his wife after severely injuring her in the head with a hammer during an attack.

Before his accusations were brought, Richard Hayden was receiving medical attention at a local hospital for other reasons, according to the authorities.

The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office will ascertain the cause of death.

Investigations are also underway on the circumstances surrounding her death and the reason behind it.

When Hayden is discharged from the hospital, he will probably be brought to the Gwinnett County Jail.
