Man charged with murder in connection with missing Washington state couple’s disappearance

A married couple whose disappearance last week was deemed “suspicious” has been found dead, and the individual responsible has been taken into custody by the authorities.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office in Washington state said that its investigators had taken Timothy Burke of Olympia into custody on first-degree murder and kidnapping charges in connection with the case, three days after appealing the public for assistance in locating Karen Koep and her husband Davido.

The office stated that the pair knew the man in his 40s, but it did not elaborate on how. Pauline Dutton, Koep’s sister, informed various media that the suspect was one of several tenants in the couple’s neighbouring rental property.

When Koep, a chiropractor, failed to show up for work on November 13, deputies were called to the couple’s home to conduct a welfare check. At that point, Koep and Davido were deemed missing. The circumstances “surrounding their disappearance had been suspicious,” the sheriff’s office reported a day later, after they found the couple and their car gone. Later on, the automobile was removed from the house.

Subsequently, on November 17, investigators reported that a suspect had attacked the couple at their residence, and based on the gathered information, it seems they were not spared.

Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders stated in a release, “We have gathered evidence to identify a suspect in their disappearance working with our local, state, and federal partners.” “Throughout the investigation, we have been in contact with the family of the missing couple, and sadly, we do not believe the couple survived the attack at their residence.”

Burke worked for Davido instead of paying rent to live at the couple’s rental home, Dutton revealed . The couple’s absence was not related to any problems, she told the site, but “there was always some drama with the tenants.”

Those who knew Koep and Davido, who according to news reports legally discarded his last name, gathered on Sunday outside Koep’s office for a vigil.

Numerous clients of Koep’s talked well of her as a friend and chiropractor. One said to King 5, “I’m very, very upset over this man who thought he could take such wonderful people from us.” Family members recalled the love and altruism of the pair.
