Prosecutors said on Thursday that a police officer in New Jersey spent more than $35,000 that was inadvertently transferred into his bank account.

Officer LaQuay DuBose, 37, of the Atlantic City Police Department, is accused of third-degree theft on Tuesday for using the money after his bank inadvertently placed a $100,000 cheque into his account.

The date of the deposit was March 21, 2023. When bank staff discovered the mistake a few days later on March 27, they took the money out and closed the officer’s account.

Prosecutors claimed that because of his spending, his account was $35,903.18, which was overdrawn.

The bank that was impacted was not specified by the prosecutors.
