The Possibility Of Water On The Moon

Researchers have discovered that water on the moon is possible due to high-energy electrons in the magnetic tail of plasma surrounding Earth weathering the moon and creating water on its surface. This finding of possible water on the moon has important implications for understanding the evolution of the moon and planning future crewed missions.

The researchers theorize that the water on the moon is connected to Earth’s magnetic bubble, known as the magnetosphere, and that the magnetotail shields the moon from charged particles while allowing light to still reach its surface. The team used data from the Moon Mineralogy Mapper instrument to assess how water formation changes as the moon passes through the magnetotail which results in the possibilities of water on the moon.

According to a published article by Space.com, further research about water on the moon will be conducted as part of the Artemis program, which aims to send the first woman and person of color to the moon by 2026. The research about the possible water on the moon was published in the journal called Nature Astronomy.

Water On The Moon’s Vital Role In Future Explorations

In a published article by The Messenger, the discovery of possible water on the moon will play a vital role in future explorations lined up to discover more of Earth’s moon. Space agencies are also racing to make and conduct missions toward the moon.
