Just after 1:30 p.m., a guy is said to have attacked an adult woman before stabbing the children outside an elementary school in Parnell Square East.

Serious injuries were sustained by the woman and a 5-year-old girl.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the man was carrying a big knife when he was eventually tackled by onlookers before police showed there and took him into custody.

The five victims were sent to various hospitals located in Dublin, such as the Mater Hospital and Children’s Health Ireland located in Crumlin, as reported by RTE, the semi-official broadcaster of Ireland.

It is unclear why the strike occurred, and authorities are reportedly ruling out terrorism.

According to RTE, Parnell Square East was bustling at the time.

Uncertainty surrounds the victims’ attendance at the city centre Gaelscoil Colaiste Mhuire school.

Following their arrival, Irish police and emergency services cordoned off the area to conduct a forensic investigation, according to authorities.

Police are pursuing a specific line of investigation, according to Ireland’s Justice Minister Helen McEntee, and no other suspects are being looked for.

“I am deeply shocked by the appalling attack on three innocent children and a woman,” McEntee said in a statement posted to X.

“All our thoughts are with those injured, especially with the children, their parents and families, during this extremely difficult period. This attack has shocked us all, and I have no doubt that the person responsible will be brought to justice.”

In a remark on the matter, Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar echoed McEntee’s opinions.

“We are all shocked by the incident which has taken place in Parnell Square,” Varadkar said.

“Our thoughts and our prayers go out to [the victims] and their families. I have been in contact with the Minister for Justice who is keeping me updated. The facts in this matter are still emerging.”

“The emergency services responded very quickly and were on site within minutes. I thank them for that.”
