At a news conference on Thursday, authorities said that two individuals had been taken into custody and charged with the murders of Dominique Marchand and Daniel Langlois.

According to police spokesman Jeoffrey James, a third individual was taken into custody but was not charged; the investigation is still underway.

“The work of the team has not ceased,” he said. “We are devoted to having justice served in this matter.”

Dominican authorities said they have contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and asked for independent investigators to assist with the investigation, including DNA and forensic examination of the evidence gathered.

Canadian police stated that they closely collaborate with their foreign colleagues and are aware of the investigation taking place in Dominica. They did, however, clarify in a statement that they would not comment on individual criminal investigations taking place in other countries.

The two males involved in the case made their court appearance on Wednesday, but Sherma Dalrymple, Dominica’s director of public prosecutions, stated that they were not obliged to enter a plea. She said they are still in custody and will go before the judge in March.

The victims’ bodies were discovered in a burning automobile last week, according to authorities, who have not yet determined the cause of the deaths.

One of the individuals charged had been embroiled in a protracted legal battle over the use of a road that led to the couple’s eco-resort, according to local media, which cited court documents.
