Uriel Carmona: Is He the Target of a Political Conspiracy?

Cuauhtémoc Blanco, a former soccer player who is currently the governor of the state of Morelos, is accused by Uriel Carmona of being a part of a political conspiracy against him. Because Uriel Carmona was looking into Blanco’s alleged connections to drug traffickers, he also claimed that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador had ordered his arrest. But Prosecutors in Mexico City claimed that Uriel Carmona was detained on suspicion of hindering the investigation into the 2022 murder of a lady from Mexico City, whose body was discovered discarded just across the state line in Morelos.

Prior to being apprehended at his house, Uriel Carmona gave an interview to the MVS radio station in which he said he was the target of political conspiracy and blamed the president as well as Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, who is currently a candidate for the Morena party’s presidential nomination. Uriel Carmona’s claims were disputed by Sheinbaum. Sheinbaum said, “This is not a political issue, this is an issue of justice.

In order to cover up the murder of 27-year-old Ariadna López, Sheinbaum charged Uriel Carmona with purposefully botching her autopsy in 2022. Uriel Carmona allegedly has connections to the suspect, according to Sheinbaum, who would not reveal them. A state forensic examination revealed that López had choked on vomit, as Uriel Carmona claimed at the time. But the second autopsy revealed many traumas and multiple lesions as the cause of death.

Attorney General Impeached Before Arrest; Question Remains

Since an attorney general must be impeached before being detained, Uriel Carmona claimed that his arrest was unlawful. The Supreme Court decided that Uriel Carmona could not be detained without first being impeached, but López Obrador’s office published a statement disputing the decision and arguing that it did not extend to allegations like obstruction of justice.
