Xinjiang: US adds more Chinese officials and companies to sanctions list

Against Uygurs and other ethnic minorities in the far western region of Xinjiang, the United States has sanctioned two another Chinese officials over alleged links to human right abuses.

On Friday, the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said that the sanctions applied to Gao Qi, a former police chief at the Ili Kazakh autonomous prefecture in northern Xinjiang, and Hu Lianhe, who is an official person from the Communist Party’s United Front Work Department responsible for shaping ideology and ensuring social stability in the region.The office declared that, the officials’ US assets had been frozen and barred any “US person” or any person who is from US itself is barred from dealing with the property until they have permission from the office which is very hard to get.
