The adolescent was shot and killed by the suspect near a hotel in Virginia on Wednesday night, and the culprit was still at large, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
According to Deputy Chief Brooke Wright, the officers were quite upset to be present at such a “tragic scene.”
“One of our teenagers passed away when they shouldn’t have. At a press conference, Wright stated, “And I can’t imagine anything more devastating for that kid’s family.”
Police responded to a 911 report regarding multiple gunshots in the 13000 block of Coppermine Road at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police found the victim to have “life-threatening” injuries when they arrived, but the boy passed away from his wounds at a nearby hospital.
The argument, according to the police, began as a disagreement amongst a group of young individuals who they thought were all acquainted.
According to the authorities, at least three bullets were fired, and three persons were involved. How many times the teen was shot is yet unknown.
Officers learned that the suspect might have escaped toward a neighbouring elementary school, so they decided to proceed cautiously and put the school on secure building status.
Around 5:45 p.m., the secure status was lifted so that pupils could go back to their parents.
The suspect, according to the police, is a man Hispanic who only wears black attire.
“We’re doing everything we can to get the suspect in custody,” Lt. Wright said. “We’ll be collecting all the evidence we can to bring this case to justice.”
