Jimmy Farley was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently booked into the Jefferson County Jail on a murder warrant. He was later released on bond after several months of confinement.

The deadly stabbing had occurred during a heated argument between the two brothers, adding to the tragedy of the situation. Jimmy Farley entered a plea of guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter on September 19, 2023, under a blind plea arrangement, indicating no prior agreement on the sentencing terms with the prosecution.

On Thursday, Jefferson County Judge Stephen Wallace handed down a 12-year prison sentence, with 2 ½ years to serve. Jimmy Farley was returned to the Jefferson County Jail and will await transfer to the Alabama Department of Corrections to commence his sentence. His attorney, Emory Anthony, conveyed Farley’s remorse, stating that it was a profoundly sad and unfortunate situation for all involved.
